Eastwick

Rarely do I feel the desire to write about a television show, but I just watched the series premiere of Eastwick, based on the book and movie "Witches of Eastwick".  Usually hate these ripoffs, but I begrudgingly admit that this was actually entertaining. The trio of Lindsay Price, Rebecca Romijn and Jaime Ray Newman really carry this hour long show that felt like it was a 22 minute sitcom (in a good way). Romijn and Price in particular play well off each other. Newman seems to take a backseat and her character needs to develop naturally as her persona is too quiet and demure to come across. I was especially taken with Price, though. I remember seeing her in Lipstick Jungle, but she really comes out swinging in Eastwick and if subsequent episodes allow her to continue to spread her wings, she will quickly make a household name for herself.

The weak link in all this, unfortunately, is Canadian Paul Gross. I hate to deride a fellow Canuck, but his Jack Nicholson-role of the Devil is over the top and just plain hokey. His fake deep voice, his put-on suave style is just plain bad and detracts from the talents of the female leads. I was disappointed since he was the main reason I was looking forward to this show, interested in seeing if he could stretch himself. He can't.

Strongly recommend this show, on at 10pm, Wednesday's on ABC.  Show link:  http://abc.go.com/shows/eastwick

HBO's Hung Is An Examination Of Personal Failure - hung - Jezebel

Absolutely love this show. Nothing fancy, straight shooting, and a great look at failure. Not that I would know anything about failure. Achem.

To this day, this is still my favourite tribute video. So simple, yet so powerful.
